Author's Note | Finale Ella in Amsterdam
Ella is part of all of us who have things to finish, dreams for others and insights from our soul. We all at some point have lived a parallel life and Ella’s story is about finishing a particular life for a spirit to move on.
Her journey is told in 36 episodes written over the course of two years. The average episode ranged around 1,900 words, taking 15 minutes to read and 1-2 hours to write. As the plot and characters developed episodes took longer to write, with the final episodes requiring the most work and plot-checking I’ve experience in my career as a writer. Season 3 required intensive planning ahead that Season 1 did not, in order to keep all the storylines in place. In total this work is roughly about 70,000 words, 10 hours of reading (from beginning to end) and 140 hours of writing and planning.
All of this work is now being converted into a book and perhaps a Netflix. The title will change and some formatting adjustments and editing will take place to transition episodes into chapters.
I hope if there’s anything we learn from Ella is to always be authentic: pursue the dreams you have, let loved ones’ know we love them and be the part of the community in a way our spirits would like to see.
With pleasure,
